MAGNIFYING GLASS APOLOGIES

Somewhere in between commas and exclamation points

Our conversations held hostage

secret words dripping in mystery

that only we knew how to decipher

set free

My days were turned into crime scenes

investigations

fingerprint heartbeats

and magnifying glass apologies

I never found what I was looking for

You ran away with the last clue

lodged somewhere in between

“Someday” and

“Not quite”

you left a few of your freckles

on the peeks of my cheekbones

A part of me thought your leaving was

part of the secret

I noticed the palms of my hands today

their lines didn’t look like treasure maps

My backbone not a finish line

I solved the mystery

 and quit looking for you
